As you may have inferred from our blog title, Caitlynn and I are pretty cheap. But even money-conscious ladies like us enjoy being pampered. This Homemade Lemon Sugar Scrub is like a teeny spa in a jar. With a simple sugar scrub, I can exfoliate my legs before shaving, scrub my hands after a long day, or have a relaxing pedicure night with my husband. This all-natural sugar scrub is easy, quick, versatile, luxurious, and, most importantly, inexpensive. You can keep yours all to yourself, double the recipe and share with friends, or make a bunch to use as party favors (like my husband’s aunt and cousins did for my bridal shower). This easy, three-ingredient recipe makes enough to fill one 8-ounce jar or 2 4-ounce jars, but can be easily multiplied.
First, prepare your ingredients. For a single batch, you’ll need:
1 lemon
1 cup sugar (what do you think of my adorable Fiesta sugar canister!?)
1/4 cup olive oil (or substitute almond or coconut oil)
Scoop 1 cup of sugar into a bowl and add 1/4 cup of oil.
Mix oil and sugar together, making sure to coat all of the sugar with the oil.
Zest and juice the lemon. Not a fan of lemon? You can easily substitute for the zest and juice of any citrus fruit. I have made this with lime before, but orange would be awesome too!
Add 1 tsp. of lemon juice and the zest of one lemon to the sugar and oil mixture. You may choose to use less zest, but I think the zest adds color and makes everything look super pretty.
Mix everything thoroughly. You can smell it, you know you want to! Mmm… lemon-y freshness.
I used an 8-ounce jam jar, but you may choose to use two smaller, 4-ounce jars instead. Scoop the mixture into your jar(s) and decorate as you please.
All done! Keep, share, gift — whatever. Be sure to treat yourself and enjoy your yummy sugar scrub! You deserve it!
